Gunmen killed the security incharge of the Bilawal House, Khalid Shahanshah, outside his residence in the upmarket Defence neighbourhood here on Tuesday. Mazhar, a friend of Shahanshah who was with him at the time of the incident, said they had just returned from the Bilawal House and were waiting outside the house at Khayaban-e-Bukhari for its gate to open when some unidentified gunmen showered Shahanshah with bullets. Mazhar was standing near the gate while the deceased was in the vehicle. The attackers escaped in a white car (GS-3909). Khalid received multiple bullet wounds and was shifted to the Ziauddin Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Soon after the incident, a large police contingent, led by DIG (South) Iqbal Mehmud, reached the spot and started investigation. An FIR was lodged with the Darakhshan Police Station on the complaint of Haider Ali, the brother of the deceased, against unknown attackers. Shahanshah was buried at the Yasinabad graveyard after Zohar prayers. The police have recovered the car used in the incident near the Sultan Masjid, Defence, with fake number plate. Khalid Ali alias Shahanshah, son of Ghulam Rasool, was born in Liaquatabad No-4. He was the third important PPP person who fell victim to target killing. Before him, Munawar Suhrawardy and Abdullah Murad — two close aides of late Benazir Bhutto — had also been gunned down in similar circumstances. Soon after the incident, conspiracy theories about the murder emerged with investigators claiming that it was a target killing and the guards posted at the house of Khalid Shahanshah also returned the fire and some bullets also hit the attackers’ car. They added while inspecting the murder site, they found 20 rounds of SMGs and 10 to 15 rounds of .222 rifle. Investigators said about 32 FIRs were lodged against the deceased at various police stations. They added during his youth, Shahanshah befriended underworld don Shoaib Khan but after the murder of Ibrahim Bholoo, a business partner of Shoaib, Shahanshah had developed differences with Shoaib and left his group. It was suspected that accomplices of Shoaib Khan might have killed Shahanshah. They also believe that some other hands might be involved in the incident, as SMGs were usually used by professional killers. Investigators believe that those who assassinated Benazir Bhutto might have carried out the murder to eliminate the evidence against them. Meanwhile, investigators later recovered the Suzuki Mehran car used in the attack from a spot near Sultan Masjid, Defence Housing Authority. They said that they found seven bullet marks on the car, while the back glass window of the car was also broken. They added that fingerprint experts were immediately called who took the prints from the car and also went through the chassis number of the car to find out the original number. During their probe, it was found that the registration number GS-3909 was of a Mazda car which was purchased by the Sindh Police in 1990 and was auctioned in 2003 to Mohammed Asif, a resident of Khairpur. Furthermore, the recovered car is Mehran and when verified from the chassis number, it was found that the original number of the car was ALK-618, which was snatched from Ibrahim Hyderi by unidentified persons on July 20. Moreover, the investigators have created the sketches of suspects involved in the killing of Khalid Shahanshah following the eyewitness accounts. The Capital City Police Officer, Karachi, Waseem Ahmed, has constituted an team to probe the target killing of Khalid Shahanshah. The members of the committee are DIG South Zone, Iqbal Mehmood, the Chairman of the committee, SSP Shahid Hayat Khan, SSP Niaz Ahmed Khoso and SSP Azad Khan. |
