The Sindh High Court (SHC) stayed the commercialisation notification of the City District Government Karachi for Khyaban-e-Saadi and Khayban-e-Roomi till further orders.

The interim order came on an application filed by a private school which moved against City District Government’s notification that permitted commercialisation of plots from residential areas of Khayaban-e-Saadi and Khyaban-e- Roomi.

The SHC division bench issued notice to CDGK and other respondents and in meantime suspended the impugned notification till further orders. Meanwhile, the same bench also restrained partial construction of Gizri flyover on petition filed by resident of Khyaban-e-Hafiz.

Petitioner Salma Iqbal Chundrigar submitted that neither was environmental assessment carried out nor was a public hearing conducted before launching of Gizri flyover. She said life of residents were at risk and jeopardy due to construction of bridge from Khyaban-e-Hafiz to the Saudi Consulate-General. The court restrained construction of bridge from Khayban-e-Hafiz to the Saudi Consulate-General till further orders and fixed May 8 for the next hearing.
