The situation of human rights in the country is worsening with each passing day, says a report of an NGO working for the rights of women and children. According to a report of Madadgaar, a joint project of Unicef and Lawyers of Human Rights and Legal Aid (LHRLA), some 11,681 cases of killing, 4,031 cases of rape, 311 cases of rape and murder, 1,660 cases of gang rape, 12,964 cases of severe torture, 6,111 cases of Karo-Kari, 1,869 cases of burn, 10,696 cases of kidnapping and 9,880 cases of suicide were reported in the last seven and half years in Pakistan. The LHRLA has demanded of the government to develop a mechanism for the strict implementation of UN/international/regional protocols and conventions ratified by the country. “All provincial high courts should establish monitoring cells to check the cases of violence against women,” it demanded, adding that a lady ombudsman should be appointed to check the violence against women. |
