Chief Secretary (CS) Sindh, Fazal-ur-Rehman, has categorically advised all the District Coordination Officers (DCO) of Sindh to ensure proper supply of essential commodities to the people at reasonable prices, during Ramazan. A directive to this effect has been issued to the all the DCOs by Additional Secretary Staff to CS, Dr Usman Chachar saying that a proactive approach is required on the DCOs’ part for ensuring necessary action on the above subject matter during the holy month of Ramazan which is only a few days away. The tendency on the part of unscrupulous elements to escalate the price of essential commodities and other items-particularly those consumed during this month require to be kept under check though proper measures. The CS expressed the expectation that adequate arrangements must be made for smooth supply of essential commodities at all district and Tehsil/Taluka level (including Sunday Bazaars) to consumer so that these are available to them at reasonable prices during Ramazan. In order to ensure easy and smooth supplies of such consumer items, the DCOs should ascertain effective measures. Meeting will be held with trader groups and District Price Committee for the purpose of fixation of fair prices of essential commodities including those in great demand during Ramazan and display prices of commodities by shop keepers etc. Steps such as orders declaration of stock of essential commodities under Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act 1977 will be taken, so that artificial shortage of commodities are avoided. Arrangements will be made for holding Friday, Sunday and Tuesday Bazaars to provide essential commodities at cheaper rates. In addition to these other meaningful strategy may also be taken to fully address the shortage or increase in prices. Meanwhile, the DCO Karachi, Javed Hanif Khan, has assured that during Ramazan, 130 daily bazaars shall be established to help the consumers. Khan apprised that supply of milk on fixed price shall also be ascertained. |
