Transporters have shown their concern over possible traffic jams during the monsoon season due to dug-up roads in the city. Representatives of the Karachi Transport Action Committee (KTAC) and the Anjuman-e-Ittehad Bus Malikan Karachi (AIBMK) have expressed serious apprehensions over the progress and speed of ongoing road development works. According to representatives of the KTAC and the AIBMK, dug-up roads may lead to severe traffic jams and create hurdles in the movement of vehicular traffic. They stressed that road projects at Banaras Chowk, Gizri, Gulshan Chowrangi, Nagan Chowrangi and Liaquatabad should be completed before the rains. Additional traffic personnel should be deployed in the city to curtail traffic problems. The representatives also added that the system for draining out rain water should be improved and steps should be taken to prevent traffic jams. They demanded that the government expedite developmental work on all road projects before the onset of the monsoons. |
