Industrial and domestic effluent being discharge through Kalri-Baghar (KB) Feeder canal, which carries contaminants from Kotri town and industrial area, has caused the degradation of Keenjhar Lake’s wetlands ecosystem. Sensing the gravity of the situation, World Wild Fund (WWF) Pakistan’s Indus for All Programme in collaboration with the Livestock & Fisheries Department, government of Sindh is organising a consultative workshop on “Pollution in Keenjhar Lake” on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at a local hotel in Karachi. The purpose of this workshop is to discuss with the stakeholders, the causes and effects of pollution at Keenjhar Lake, in addition to other anthropogenic pressures. It also aims to identify measures to stop the pollution at source from entering the Keenjhar Lake and devise measures for effective management of the lake. |
