In order to mitigate highway crime, goods vehicles have been asked to travel in the shape of convoys from 10.00 p.m. to 5.00 a.m. by Provincial Police Officer, Sindh, Dr Shoaib Suddle. He has also ordered authorities concerned to increase police posts on the highways.
He issued these directives while talking to a delegation of goods transporters, led by the President of the Karachi Goods Carriers Association, Mohammad Khalid Khan, who met him at the Central Police Office.
Transporters drew attention of the PPO, Sindh, to the alarming rise in robbery and theft in passenger buses and hijacking of goods trucks, especially on Northern Bypass Link Road and Super Highway. They also urged him to order measures to effectively come to grips with robbery incidents in public transport in city. They complained of traffic officials’ excesses attitude, their indulgence in bribery, and what they called the ruthless daily quota of challans.
Transporters were asked to inform the CCPO, Karachi, of complaints against officials, who, while on duty, bullied them under some excuse or the other so that they may be taken to task.
The PPO announced meetings on a monthly basis to address problems of transporters and review performance of police authorities. |
