Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Sherry Rehman, has said that the government would soon fulfil the promises made with the people and would come up to their expectations. She was talking to media persons at the Karachi Airport on Sunday on her arrival from Islamabad. The minister asked the people, the lawyers and those who were part of the democratic struggle, to have confidence in their government and no promise will be put in cold storage. She said that the country is facing financial and political challenges and the PPP led government will tackle these issues to fulfil the promises made with the people of Pakistan. Replying to a question about the lawyers’ long march to Islamabad, Sherry Rehman said that the big event concluded in a peaceful manner and the government had facilitated the process in order to maintain law & order. She added that some of the PPP workers also participated in the march, while the PPP Secretariat arranged ‘Sabeels’ and food to facilitate the participants. The minister pointed out that it is the right of the democratic forces to raise their voice and it was the responsibility of the government to listen to them and accept their genuine demands, besides providing protection to the people and the international community in Islamabad. She said that a common constitutional package was prepared with the consultation of their allies and a clause was included in the Finance Bill and accordingly the strength of the judges has been increased. Sherry Rehman stated that Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life for the cause of reconciliation and peaceful transition.
