The defence counsel in a gang-rape case filed ‘an alteration of charge application’ on Thursday in the court of the additional district and sessions judge. Waqar Shah, the defence counsel, submitted in the court that the charge levelled against his client, Shaban Sheikh, was not medically proven and his client had married Kainat Soomro, and had committed no offence against her. Deputy District Public Prosecutor Abdul Maroof contended that there was no need to file an alteration of charge application as the medical report, chemical examination report and the statement of the medico-legal officer in the gang-rape case proved that the offence had been committed and the charge-sheet submitted in the court was also correct. The court adjourned the case till July 7. Kainat Soomro was allegedly gang-raped by four people in district Dadu on January 10, 2007. |
