Amir of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) Maulana Fazlur Rahman has said that other than the Murree Declaration the mechanism to reinstate the about 60 deposed judges of superior courts should also take into account the Charter of Democracy to which the two major political parties, part of the present coalition government, were signatories.
He was addressing a press conference here on Monday after attending a congregation of the activists of his party at Jamia Mahmoodia, Mariam Masjid in Manzoor Colony. The former leader of opposition in the National Assembly said that his political party would honour the decision of other major political parties, which are senior partners of the coalition government, regarding reinstatement of deposed Judges and restoration of the pre-November 03, 2007 independent judiciary.
He said that two major political parties, the PPP and PML (N), were signatories to the Charter of Democracy, which should also ensure its implementation in the mechanism that is being actively devised to restore the pre-emergency independent judiciary in the country.
The JUI (F) chief said that he had been able to convince the incumbent government authorities to enlarge the process of reconciliation and its extension for the benefit of the incarcerated leaders of religious organisations. He claimed that it was their stance to emphasis and enlarge the process of reconciliation that eventually resulted in the freedom of the former Balochistan chief minister Sardar Akhtar Mengal and the Chief of Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat Maulana Sufi Muhammad. He said that his party had the willingness to keep unity and integrity of the MMA intact and that’s why he did not act at all to change the president of MMA. He termed Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed as the non-functional president of the six religious parties’ alliance, the MMA. |
