The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) managing director, Engr Suleman Chandio, has hinted at reviewing the water tariff for commercial consumers on the grounds that there has been no increase in the tariff since 2001. Speaking to a delegation of the PTA Environmental Society at his office on Thursday, Chandio said that the KWSB received Rs2.5 billion from its consumers while its annual expenses had crossed Rs4 billion. “In other words, the KWSB is facing a financial deficit, because it pays over Rs1.75 billion only in electricity bills,” he said. Chandio also suggested setting up coordination committees, comprising representatives of the water board and the industrial associations of Korangi, SITE, F.B Area, North Karachi and Landhi. These coordination committees should meet once in a month and point out the issues of water and sewerage so that the same could be resolved on timely basis. The KWSB MD also directed for early completion of development works in 7-A, Korangi. |
