The Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-Haqiqi) has alleged that the city police have illegally detained one of their women’s wing leaders along with her children and ware demanding Rs200,000 for her release. Addressing a hurriedly called press conference at the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Thursday, MQM-Haqiqi Women’s Wing leaders Rida Asim and Sohail Anjum Advocate demanded the immediate release of their leader Rehana Hamid, saying otherwise they would be compelled to initiate strong protest against the authorities. They alleged that the residence of Rida Asim was occupied by the terrorists of their rival organisation while another women’s wing leader Rehana Hamid was arrested by police and kept in illegal detention. “Now the DSP, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, is demanding Rs200,000 for her release along with the children,” they charged. Haqiqi leaders warned that if the atrocities against the party workers, leadership and even the women were not stopped within 72 hours, the responsibility of consequences would only lie with the government and its coalition partner in Karachi. |
