A Bengali gang, allegedly involved in drug trafficking, is active in Eidgah, as residents of the area have sent a complaint to Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Karachi regarding the presence of the criminals. However, the residents still await appropriate action by the authorities concerned. The complaint was sent to and received by the CCPO a month ago.
The residents of Eidgah compound, Jama Cloth, have lodged a complaint to the CCPO, Karachi, against the criminal activities of Jehangir Bangali, Nadir and three to four of their accomplices.
The residents have stated that Jehangir Bangali, Nadir and their accomplices have been selling hashish, heroin and opium in the vicinity of the shrine of Alam Shah Bokhari (RA) who is the first Kutub. The tombs of three saints and the graves of three May 12 (2007) victims are also located in the compound of Eidgah Jama Masjid on M.A. Jinnah Road. A large number of people use to visit the place daily to seek the blessings of the saints.
The outlaws also resort to harassing and pick-pocketing visitors to the shrine, besides creating an unpleasant atmosphere on the road right outside the shrine.
They sell drugs openly and have become a nuisance for the residents of the locality.
Moreover, despite publication of reports that the Arambagh park has become a notorious drug den, no action has been taken so far.
Besides this, three to four schools are also situated in the locality and this gang of drug peddlers has been harassing school-going children, using filthy language, particularly against female students.
The residents have appealed to the CCPO to look into the matter personally and take proper and stern action against this gang of criminals, which, aside from illegal activities, is also violating the sanctity of the shrine. |
