The presidents of two Muslim League factions, Pir Sahib Pagara and Shaikh Rashid Ahmed, have expressed serious concern over the current political situation in the country and both leaders warned that, due to the present situation, the democratic process could be derailed for a long time. Sheikh Rashid, after forming a new political party, The Awami Mulsim League (AML), visited Kingri House on Monday. While addressing a joint press conference along with Sheikh Rashid, Pir Pagara, President of the Pakistan Muslim League - Functional , said that, at present, the democratic process was running in a ‘grace period’ and each and every day of present government was a bonus. He further said that soon there would be martial law in the country as martial law was the desire and requirement of the United States. Pir Pagara said that President Musharraf would resign only when a lot of the people had passed away. He said that no effort to displace Musharraf could succeed until then. He added that the present set-up would run only as long as Musharraf would allow it to. Pir Pagara predicted that the deposed Judges would not be reinstated but soon the number of the lawyers would decrease. He said that Mian Shahbaz Sharif’s future was bleak and questioned if one brother’s future is dark then how is the other’s bright. On the recent statements of Dr Qadir Khan, he said that scientists and mathematicians tend to go insane in the closing stages of their lives. At this juncture, Shaikh Rashid interjected, saying that Pir Sahib’s indication about martial law was absolutely correct and that he foresaw a “horrible future” for democracy. Earlier, both leaders, during their one-on-one meeting, discussed the current political situation of the country and other important issues. |
