The main purpose of the police is not only to nab criminals but also to provide better services to citizens, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Welfare, Amir Farooqi, said. “The department is providing health facilities to the poor and needy people at their doorsteps,” he said on Thursday while administering anti-polio drops at the Police Public Medical Centre during the Polio Eradication Day.
AIG Farooqi said that awareness was the best tool for getting rid of a number of diseases, especially polio. Social activities are a bridge between the public and the police and would help restore confidence in the department, he maintained. The AIG spoke about medical services, and said that these were started in 1998 by the then-senior superintendent of police (SSP) Central, deputy inspector general (DIG) Saud Mirza, who is also the Life Managing Director of the Police Public Health Care Programme. Chief Medical Director, Sindh Police, Dr Safdar Hussain was also present on the occasion. |
