An extra high tension (EHT) circuit of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) tripped while at least in three areas the underground cables developed fault, which further lowered the service level of the KESC amid the sizzling temperature throughout Monday. Besides other troubles, which KESC spokesperson called ‘local-faults’ outnumbered the faults on Sunday. Since the KESC’s maintenance staff continued to be ‘engaged’ in rectification of grid-station and transmission-line level faults, the cries against these local-faults remained unheard by the corporation staff. The tripping of EHT line disrupted power supply to different parts of Defence Society, Garden, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, M A Jinnah Road, and was not restored till night. Besides, underground cable went defective in DHA Phase-V, Gulshan-e-Maymar and Old City. A KESC spokesperson claimed that despite limitation of transmission facility due to the closure of 66-kv Queen’s Road-to-Ellender-Road transmission circuit no.3, the corporation did not carry out any load shedding and was able to transfer the load of the affected feeders to the adjoining feeders. However, for technical reasons the load of Habib Bank Plaza and commercial centres cannot be diverted. He expressed his expectation that the corporation will not resort to load shedding on Tuesday also. He said power supply situation will be completely normalised after re-energising of 132-kv Queens Road to Ellender Road Grid transmission line. |
