| Restoration of OZT funds demanded |

The officiating Nazim of Malir Town Sharafat Ali has sent an SOS message to the Sindh government to completely restore the Octroi-Zilla Tax (OZT) so that basic amenities and civic services be ensured to the Malir town residents without any interruption. According to a spokesman for the Malir Town Municipal Administration, owing to the 50 per cent curtailment in the OZT funds, private contractors had stopped the provision of fuel to the town administration as they didn’t receive their dues from the administration. He said the sanitation and cleanliness tasks in the town were under threat due to the non-availability of fuel for the official vehicles. The spokesman feared that various development works in the town would also be affected due to the deduction in the OZT funds by the government. SITE TOWN: “The town administration has been carrying out development projects without any discrimination and has also completed many projects in record time,” Syed Badshah Khan, Naib Nazim SITE Town said. He was addressing a ceremony organised in honour by the local people of Union Council-6 on Monday. Khan lauded the determination and leadership of the town Nazim, Izhar Uddin Ahmed Khan, and told the people that degree college in Sector 4/D, road constructions in Madina City, Frontier Colony, Sehri Baba, Agarwal Colony were conducted on the Nazim’s interest and direction. The supply of clean drinking water in Al-Wahid Town and the construction of the graveyard road of UC-6 were also completed on time due to the Nazim’s guidance, he added. PPI adds: Town Municipal Administration (TMA), Shah Faisal Town has decided to take strict action against mobile phone towers installed by mobile companies in town limits without getting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) The directives were issued in a meeting of Regulation Department with acting Nazim TMA Karimuddin in chair on Monday. The acting town Nazim said that some mobile phone companies had not paid their dues from August 2008 and some others had installed the towers without getting the NOC from the town administration. He said strict action will be taken against both if dues and NOCs were not ensured within a week. Town Municipal Officer (TMO) Syed Fazeel Ahmed Bukhari and Nazims of different Union Councils were also present. KORANGI TOWN: Land Department Squad of Korangi Town, on the directives of Town Nazim Muhammad Arif Khan Advocate, conducted an operation against encroachments and removed around 12 shanties from Union Council 5. The action was taken in 50/A Madina Colony under the supervision of DTO Land, Asif Jetha, Faisal Wahid and Inspector Muhammad Abid. Heavy machinery was used in the operation. Nazim Muhammad Arif Khan, Naib Nazim Muhammad Asghar Qureshi and TMO Mushtaq Ahmed Memon inspected the operation. |
