Female home-based labourers under the banner of Labour Education Foundation (LEF) organised a fair “Ek Sham Ghar Mazdoor Khawateen Kay Naam”, the other day to pay homage to the sacrifices of the Chicago workers.
Women related to garments, bangles and other home-based industries attended the fair. Different political, social and trade union leaders also attended the fair these include central leader of Trade Union Federation, Shehla Rizwan of Labour Party, Ms Hina of Actionaid Pakistan and others.
On the occasion these leaders said that thousands of these women were contributing in the growth economy but unfortunately these were not recognised in the national economy. They said that even these women were not considered as labour and they were not allowed to form their unions.
The participants vowed to organise all women working in home-based industries and launch a movement for the recognition of their rights. They demanded of the government to ratify the convention C-177 and grant it the status of national policy, register the home-based workers, the workers of bangles industry should be given their rights according to labour laws. They demanded that the gender inequality should be ended in remuneration. They demanded that these working women should be given right to form their unions, besides providing them proper training. |
