| SHC hears Tessori case |

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday directed the provincial law officer to file comments regarding cases lodged against gold baron, Kamran Khan Tessori, and his father and his brother in the Tando Bago police station. The court was hearing a petition filed by Tessori’s maternal grandmother, Zaitoon Begum, seeking the court’s order for protection to the Tessori family and permission to do business. The provincial law officer informed the court that two criminal cases were registered against the petitioner’s son-in law and two grandsons at the Tando Bago police station and sought time to verify if any of the people mentioned in the petition was involved in any other case. The SHC’s division bench, comprising Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Bin Yamin, granted time and adjourned the matter till October 13. The court also directed the AAG to file list of cases, if any, in Tando Bago and other police stations of the province. Suspect remanded in kidnapping and murder case: The Administrative Judge (AJ) of the ant-terrorism courts in Karachi remanded a suspect, facing kidnapping and murder charges, to police custody till September 29. Jahanzaib was arrested by the Anti-Violent Crime Unit for allegedly kidnapping his cousin Ali Nawaz for ransom and later killing him. Investigation officer Tahir Naeem submitted that the suspect kidnapped his cousin, a student of local private college, and demanded Rs10 million as ransom from his family for his release. Later, he killed the abducted by physically torturing him and dumped his body in a vehicle that was found in the Boat Basin area. The Investigation Officer (IO) sought police remand of the suspect for investigation. The AJ granting request and remanded the suspect to police custody till September 29 and directed the IO to produce him on the next date of hearing. Bail dismissed: The SHC’s single bench comprising Justice Bin Yamin dismissed bail application of man facing murder trial. Imran Khan, along with another person, is charged with killing Mohammad Saeed and injuring Sajid Haneef during resistance to robbery. State counsel Ashraf Khan Mughal opposed the bail application contending that applicant was involved in street crime and during resistance he killed an innocent citizen. The court after hearing the arguments of the counsel dismissed the bail application.
