The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notices to the Home Secretary, Provincial Police Officer and others on the petition of a former provincial minister, seeking quashment of an FIR against him in an attempt to murder case.
Haji Altaf Hussain Unar, who was the minister of power and relief affairs in the previous government, moved the SHC against Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MNA Dr Azra Pachuho and others, submitting that the respondent had lodged a false FIR against him due to political victimisation.
The PPP legislator lodged an FIR with the Bhudapur police station, alleging that Altaf Hussain Unar and other co-accused had fired on her with the intention to kill her during a by-election in PS-71 Dadu on February 10 last year. He sought quashment of proceedings against him pending before the trial court and also prayed the court to direct the Home Department to provide him the list of cases if registered against him in different police stations.
Two identical petitions were also filed by a PML (Q) candidate of NA-207, Larkana, Babu Ghulam Sarwar Siyal, and PML (F) leader Syed Hamid Ali Shah Rashdi against their harassment by police and PPP activists.
SHC’s division bench issued notices to AG, Home Secretary and others for May 15 and 22 and called for their comments.
