On the directives of the Sindh government, the Provincial Police Officer, Sindh, Shoaib Suddle, has constituted an inquiry team to review out-of-turn promotions which had been made with effect from 1980. The chairman of the committee is Additional Inspector-General of Police, Sindh, Tariq Jamil.
Sources said that the members of the committee were the Deputy-Inspector-General of Crime Investigation Department, Saud Mirza; DIG Headquarters, Waseem Ahmed; DIG Establishment and ADIG Operations, Kamran Fazal; and the interesting point is that the committee will only review the cases of Provincial Cadre between grades of 16 to 19.
A senior officer, on condition of anonymity, queried as to why only the cases of those who were non-PSPs were being enquired into. He added that their names had been put forth and the then officers had established a law under Section 9-A, and then sent a summary for their promotions to the upper ranks which was approved.
It was further disclosed that during the tenure of ex-PPO, Sindh, Syed Kamal Shah, handsome awards had been announced for the officers who decreased the crime and curbed the terrorists’ network in the province and during his tenure some officers were promoted for their gallantry.
A senior officer privy to the enquiry committee said that, several complaints were made by the officers who raised a hue and cry that their seniority was disregarded and the junior officers were promoted to senior ranks and in the applications they had also mentioned that their cases were submitted to the previous set-up but no action had been taken.
The officer maintained that the committee will review all the cases and find out on what grounds they had been promoted to superior ranks and genuine cases would not be touched and also those officers who curb the terrorist network would not be dislodged. |
