Foolproof security arrangements have been made for the Asia Cup cricket tournament scheduled to kick off from June 24 at the National stadium, Karachi. Rangers along with the police will be deployed inside the stadium and its periphery. The decision to this effect was taken at a high level meeting held under the chairmanship of the Sindh Home Secretary, Arif Ahmed Khan and attended by the District Coordination Officer (DCO) Karachi, senior police officials, Rangers and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials. Talking to The News, Khan said that authorities in Islamabad have been told to beef up security measures in the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments to be held in September. He said that the success of the Asia cup in June will pave the way for the ICC cricket tournament to be held in September this year. Regarding the arrangement, he said no bottled beverages will be allowed inside the stadium as drinking water facility will be provided by the PCB. Six liaison officers of the police will be deployed for six teams, which will ensure security of the teams from their hotels to the stadium. The six teams of Pakistan, India, Srilanka, Bangladesh, UAE and Hongkong will stay at a local hotel. The Rangers and police will patrol on four roads – Aga Khan Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Dalmia Road and Karsaz Road – to avert any ugly incidents. Sindh Home secretary said all the 14 gates of the stadium will be provided foolproof security arrangements. When asked about the law and order situation that is always created when the tickets are not available, Khan said it has been decided that the sale of tickets will not be allowed at the gates. Citizens have been asked to purchase the tickets from designated spots announced by the PCB. Answering a question, he said there would be three car parking lots, one VIP car parking inside the national stadium, a car parking ground of Pakistan sports board and one at the Expo Centre. |
