Narrated Nafi: Ibn Umar recited the verse: "They had a choice either to fast or to feed a poor person for every day, and said that the order of this Verse was cancelled.
Narrated Aisha: Sometimes I missed some days of Ramadan, but could not fast in lieu of them except in the month of Shaban." Said Yahya, a sub-narrator, "She used to be busy serving the Prophet ."
Narrated Abu Said: The Prophet said, "Isnt it true that a woman does not pray and does not fast on menstruating? And that is the defect (a loss) in her religion."
Ashra is an Arabic word which means ?ten.? In Islamic terminology, the 1st Ashra refers to the first 10 days of the Holy month of Ramadan. The second Ashra refers to the middle 10 days (11-20), and the third Ashra refers to the last set of 10 days (21-30).
Narrated Aisha: Allahs Apostle said, "Whoever died and he ought to have fasted (the missed days of Ramadan) then his guardians must fast on his behalf."
Narrated Ibn Abbas: A man came to the Prophet and said, "O Allahs Apostle! My mother died and she ought to have fasted one month (for her missed Ramadan). Shall I fast on her behalf?" The Prophet replied in the affirmative and said, "Allahs debts have more right to be paid." In another narration a woman is reported to have said, "My sister died..." Narrated Ibn Abbas: A woman said to the Prophet "My mother died and she had vowed to fast but she didnt fast." In another narration Ibn Abbas is reported to have said, "A woman said to the Prophet, "My mother died while she ought to have fasted for fifteen days."
Narrated Umar bin Al-Khattab: Allahs Apostle said, "When night falls from this side and the day vanishes from this side and the sun sets, then the fasting person should break his fast."
Narrated Abdullah bin Abi Aufa: We were in the company of the Prophet on a journey and he was fasting, and when the sun set, he addressed somebody, "O so-and-so, get up and mix Sawiq with water for us." He replied, "O Allahs Apostle! (Will you wait) till it is evening?" The Prophet said, "Get down and mix Sawiq with water for us." He replied, "O Allahs Apostle! (If you wait) till it is evening." The Prophet said again, "Get down and mix Sawiq with water for us." He replied, "It is still daytime."(1) The Prophet said again, "Get down and mix Sawiq with water for us." He got down and mixed Sawiq for them. The Prophet drank it and then said, "When you see night falling from this side, the fasting person should break his fast."
Narrated Abdullah bin Abi Aufa" We were traveling with Allahs Apostle and he was fasting, and when the sun set, he said to (someone), "Get down and mix Sawiq with water for us." He replied, "O Allahs Apostle! (Will you wait) till it is evening?" The Prophet again said, "Get down and mix Sawiq with water for us." He replied, "O Allahs Apostle! It is still daytime." The Prophet said again, "Get down and mix Sawiq with water for us." So, he got down and carried out that order. The Prophet then said, "When you see night falling from this side, the fasting person should break his fast," and he beckoned with his finger towards the east.
Narrated Anas: The Prophet said, "Do not practice Al-Wisal (fasting continuously without breaking ones fast in the evening or eating before the following dawn)." The people said to the Prophet, "But you practice Al-Wisal?" The Prophet replied, "I am not like any of you, for I am given food and drink (by Allah) during the night."
Narrated Abdullah bin Umar: Allahs Apostle forbade Al-Wisal. The people said (to him), "But you practice it?" He said, "I am not like you, for I am given food and drink by Allah."
The first ten days of Ramadan are known as the period of Mercy. It is indeed the sign of His Mercy upon us that we are blessed to observe Fast during Ramadan. Accordingly, we are encouraged to be more generous and kind to fellow beings, especially to be extremely respectful to elders and loving to the younger ones, and to be extremely generous to the needy and poor ones. Being that it will be our first days of experiencing hunger and thirst, this act of generosity should come naturally as it becomes easy to understand the hardship of the poor and needy. Among the few things to do in this month of mercy and charity, as instructed by the Prophet, peace be upon him, are, "Give alms to the poor and needy. Pay respect to elders, have sympathy to youngsters, to be kind to your relatives." It is our undeniable duty to practice of guarding our tongue against unworthy words, eyes from seeing forbidden things, and ears from hearing voices that are evil.
Narrated Sahl bin Sad: Allahs Apostle said, "The people will remain on the right path as long as they hasten the breaking of the fast."
Narrated Ibn Abi Aufa: I was with the Prophet on a journey, and he observed the fast till evening. The Prophet said to a man, "Get down and mix Sawiq with water for me." He replied, "Will you wait till it is evening?" The Prophet said, "Get down and mix Sawiq with water for me; when you see night falling from this side, the fasting person should break his fast."
Narrated Abu Usama from Hisham bin Ursa from Fatima: Asma bint Abi Bakr said, "We broke our fast during the lifetime of the Prophet on a cloudy day and then the sun appeared." Hisham was asked, "Were they ordered to fast in lieu of that day?" He replied, "It had to be made up for." Mamar said, "I heard Hisham saying, "I dont know whether they fasted in lieu of that day or not."
Narrated Ar-Rubi bint Muawadh: "The Prophet sent a messenger to the village of the Ansar in the morning of the day of Ashura (10th of Muharram) to announce: Whoever has eaten something should not eat but complete the fast, and whoever is observing the fast should complete it. "She further said, "Since then we used to fast on that day regularly and also make our boys fast. We used to make toys of wool for the boys and if anyone of them cried for, he was given those toys till it was the time of the breaking of the fast."
