One fine morning, we find that we a have a king in Islamabad along with his entourage of advisers and of course a very intelligent Prime Minister. The king is a very nice and humble gentleman and wishes that his entire population across the expanse of Pakistan is given every thing they ask for and in return his only demand is that all over Pakistan, people sing and praise his name day and night for his generosity. The king asks the Prime Minister’s advice and he is told that in order to get his wish of being praised day and night, he should build bridges, schools, hospitals and provide clean drinking water and give every able Pakistani a job and he will be praised. The king embarks on this ambitious plan and does everything to make every Pakistani happy. The country is indeed on the road to progress and after having accomplished his objective, he asks his Prime Minister for any reaction of the population. The Prime Minister takes a while and returns to inform the king that there is no one to praise the king and the people are as they were before.
Quite stunned by the silence of the entire Pakistani nation, he again reverts to his intelligent Prime Minister for advice and asks if there was anything else he should do which would make everybody praise him day and night. The Prime Minister advises the king that instead of building roads and bridges, schools and hospitals, he should first demolish every structure and build it again. In this manner, indeed the entire Pakistan nation will stand up and praise the king for his wisdom and foresight. The king follows the advice given by his Prime Minister and demolishes every structure and builds it again. Upon the king's query, the Prime Minister yet again returns to announce that there is no one out there to praise him as every Pakistani is as he/she was before.
Once again, the king is shocked and begins to get irritated. He calls his Prime Minister yet again, and asks for his advice. The intelligent Prime Minister advises the king that instead of building wide roads, large bridges and tall buildings to house every Pakistani, he should begin building smaller roads and bridges so that are congestions and traffic jams every day. The people will be frustrated and come to the king for help. The king will then do as the people ask and indeed they will be happy and content and his desire to be praised will be fulfilled. The king narrows the roads, builds small bridges, starts load shedding and as a result the entire Pakistani nation is faced with traffic jams and fights are a common day feature. But nobody is least concerned and life goes on as usual. Upon hearing that each Pakistani is least concerned and is busy as he was before, the king’s level of irritation begins to rise.
The king gets angry with his Prime Minister and asks him for some serious advice. Upon this the Prime Minister comes back with an indeed novel idea. He says that in order to get every Pakistani's praise, the king should post a group of his soldiers on every road and bridge and when ever a citizen wishes to pass by, the soldiers should whip the individual once and then only should he be allowed to pass. Upon this cruel treatment, people will be forced to approach the king and beg for mercy. The king should then stop this cruel treatment, and then every Pakistani will indeed be happy and praise the king.
As a result soldiers are posted and they begin whipping every individual who wishes to pass by. There is a long line of people on every road and bridge and the soldiers begin the whipping process. Days go by and nobody turns up to beg for mercy from the king. Yet again the king is furious and calls his Prime Minister. The Prime Minister then advises the king that he should give a large ad sumptuous meal for the nation, and after the meal he should ask everybody in person if there was anything he could do to make the nation content. The king does as per the advice of his Prime Minister, and organizes a grand feast. Millions of Pakistanis turn up, enjoy the meal and start leaving.
Upon eating the royal and lavish deal, not a single Pakistani comes forward and the king stands waiting for somebody to come forward with a complaint; but nobody comes forward and the entire nation is least concerned.
However, there is an old man in a wheel chair at the end of ground where the feast was arranged. An individual duly addresses the king and pointing to the old man, says that that old man has a big problem and that the king should listen to him. The king is finally somewhat relieved that indeed there was at least one person who has a problem which can be solved; in return he hopes that this old man will praise the king.
The kings steps forward and asks the old man for his problem. The old man says that "I am an old man and cannot bear to wait for long hours in the queue while the soldiers whip each citizen. Please allow me to break the line and come forward so that I may be whipped first."
Upon hearing this, the king is indeed furious and in a frenzy of anger and helplessness, he shoots himself in the head and ends his life then and there.
