Quite like that until that night.
He poured his heart out again
On that cold wooden bench,
Trying not to hurt me.
“I’m sorry, I never meant for it to end like this”
I wouldn’t say a word.
I turned and looked at him hunched over on the bench
I held his hand
and they were cold.
A single tear splashed onto my hand,
breaking the silence.
but I still wouldn’t speak.
I couldn’t process it.
What do you mean?
You...don’t love me?
Then all these months?
I turned away and stared down at the dark road.
On my way home, I looked at my hand.
There was the little droplet.
I have never seen a guy cry like that since then,
And probably never will.
