A married woman committed suicide due to poverty in the Delhi Colony in the limits of the Frere police station on Thursday, police said.

Twenty-eight-year-old Huma, wife of Faisal and mother of four, committed suicide by hanging herself due to poverty and poor financial conditions of the family, the police said.

The Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sabir of the Frere police station said that initial investigation showed that the woman was depressed and committed suicide by hanging herself when her husband and children were not at home.

“Huma had four children who had gone to a religious seminary for education while her husband was at work when she hanged herself. When one of her children returned home from the seminary and saw his mother hanging from the roof, he went outside and informed his father,” the ASI said.

The ASI said that the body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where it was lying for over two hours as the female medico-legal officer (MLO) was not available for carrying out the post-mortem examination.

Till the time this report was filed, no FIR had been lodged at the police station.

In another incident, 30-year-old Shabnam, died after falling from the stairs of her residence in Lyari in the limits of the Chakiwara police station.
